CONSEQUENCES OF NOT SEEKING GOD’S GUIDANCE
Anchor Verse: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)
Joshua’s treaty with the Gibeonites had a devastating effect (great famine) on the children of Israel hundreds of years after the treaty was made. (Read it up in 2 Samuel 21 :1-end) Saul the king of Israel in that time, fought and killed the Gibeonites, being unaware maybe, of the covenant between Isreal and the Gibeonites. Who would have thought such a careless covenant by Joshua will hunt the children of God centuries after? This is a very striking lesson. Decisions taken over the wind can mar a person’s future and can even affect unborn generations. If Joshua had asked from God who knows the end from the beginning, before accepting the Gibeonites, that trap would have been abated.
In life, applying wisdom in all we do is very paramount to overcoming the incessant snares of satan. We need godly wisdom and direction in order not to fall a prey to the enemy. Anyone who embarks on a journey without a roadmap or compass is sure to miss the way. Same is true with anyone who depends on head knowledge and human wisdom to sail through the routes of life. Do not do it alone, seek godly counsel.
The Gibeonites knew very well that God was with the Israelites, owing to the numerous victories they recorded over their enemies. They knew it will be a futile effort trying to engage them in a war. Therefore, they resorted to pretense and deception to gain access into their camp and became a torn on their flesh. Satan is very subtle. He knows people’s weak points, and knows the strategy to use against them – be guided.
The world is swimming in hypocrisy. Many people are not who they claim to be. One thing is certain, you can never make a mistake when you walk with Jesus. Read your bible continuously and pray, so you can decipher deception when it comes knocking. Don’t fall a victim to falsehood, allow Jesus to guide you in all your endeavours.
