OBEDIENCE EVEN WHEN IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE
Anchor Verse: which states, “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. (1Samuel 15:22)
Has God ever asked you to take an action that doesn’t really add up to you? Elijah experienced that when he obeyed God and went to the brook of Cherith, without reasoning what the outcome might eventually be. God delights in our total obedience to His commands and promises. He is happy when we trust Him unwaveringly without any iota of doubt. Here again, we see another apt obedience in action.
One area that people get snared by the wicked one is through the sense of reasoning. Not necessarily deliberating over something but, analyzing its possibility, such an act displeases God. In Romans 8: 24 , the bible says “Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? Exactly, if you are seeing a thing, then there is truly no need hoping for it because it is already with you.
Prophet Elijah’s obedience and trust in God is quite emulative. Imagine going to hide by the brook and having ravens (birds) to bring you food morning and night? He didn’t reason it out; or analyze the natural impossibility of birds feeding him but he chose to believe and obey God. How many of us take God for what He says, especially when such a thing defiles logical reasoning? In the case of Abraham, the bible tells us in Romans 4:3 “…Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
If you must walk with God and enjoy His benefits, you must be ready to believe Him like a little child. Children trust so much that, when they are thrown up in the air, instead of screaming, they let out a beautiful smile believing that you will never allow them to be hurt – God desires such an honest trust from us.
Elijah, without questioning the potency of God’s command went and hid himself by the brook and was duly fed by the ravens according to the word of The Lord. You see, God is faithful to fulfill that which He promises His children. He cannot say what He does not mean and He means whatever He says. Whenever you begin to ask, how can this happen? You are allowing the voice of reason to silence your faith and once that is established, uncertainty and doubt will be developed.
Leave the ‘how’ for the Almighty God to handle. Yours is to believe and trust Him.
